The Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy took a special tour this week in advance of the football game between Air Force and Navy on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. MT at Navy-Marine Corp Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
The trophy began the tour on Friday at Joint Base Andrews at the Tactical Fitness Center, where Col. John Teichert hosted the Air Force cheer team and The Bird mascot with the trophy. Later that day the trophy made its way to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling where Vice Commander and Air Force Element Commander of the base hosted the group.
Finally, the trophy and cheer team and mascot attended a pep rally at the Pentagon. The group made its way to the air staff offices, along with the offices of the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
The purpose of the tour was to build community in the Air Force with the Air Force’s football team and the service members they represent. Air Force Superintendent Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, along with other members of his senior staff including Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton were on hand to thank service members for their support and service.
This week’s game opens the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy series between the nation’s three service academies: Army, Navy and Air Force. The 2017 season marks the 46th years of Commander-in-Chief’s trophy competition. Air Force is the current owner of the trophy, as the team clinched its record 20th CIC trophy with wins over Army and Navy last season.
