
Air Force Drops 48-45 Contest at Navy

Navy rallied back with a last-second touchdown to down Air Force 48-45 in a wild service academy showdown Saturday afternoon in front of a record crowd of 38,792 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Midshipman quarterback Zach Abey tossed a 16 yard touchdown pass to Tyler Carmona with 15 seconds left for the final score of the game.
It was a tough loss for Air Force, having rallied back from a 31-10 deficit early in the third quarter to take a 45-41 lead after a 51-yard touchdown pass by Arion Worthman to Marcus Bennett with 1:53 left in the game.
Air Force racked up 621 yards of total offense, the 12th most in a game in program history.
Worthman set a school record with 396 yards of total offense. The junior threw for 257 yards and rushed for 139 yards, adding a 24-yard reception. Worthman threw two and ran for two touchdowns. Bennett caught both scores to finish with five catches and 161 yards receiving. The 161 yards receiving is the 11th most in a game in Air Force history.
Navy had 557 yards off offense. Abey ran for 214 yards on 29 rushes. Malcolm Perry added 127 yards rushing, including a 91-yard touchdown run.
The Midshipmen led 28-10 at halftime. Air Force out-scored Navy 35-20 in the second half.
Defensively, Air Force was led by senior linebackers Jack Flor and Grant Ross and junior safety Kyle Floyd. All three set career-high's for tackles. Flor had a game-high 16 stops, Floyd 13 and Ross 12.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 14, hosting UNLV. Kickoff is slated for noon MT.
