Air Force downs Seattle to sweep Friday matches

Air Force defeated Seattle, 7-0, in a non-conference women's tennis match to sweep a pair of Friday road matches in Seattle, Wash. The Falcons beat Puget Sound, 7-0, earlier in the day.

The Falcons won the doubles point behind wins at No. 2 and 3. Chloe Forlini and Jocelle Rudico won 6-2 at the second spot while Lily Forlini and Nadeen Lieberman posted a 6-3 win at No. 3. The Falcons swept the singles matches. Chloe Forlini came from a set down to beat Michelle Lui, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1. TJ Fumagalli improved to 13-0 this spring with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Madison Maloney. Elizabeth Barnickel beat Barbara Carey, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 while Lily Forlini was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 4 over Caroline Maltby. Nadeen Lieberman beat Kali McCollister, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and Jocelle Rudico defeated Kailyn Skjonsby, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 to complete the sweep.

"This was a really great day for the team! To be on the road and not drop a match for the day is just "tough." The second match of the day vs. Seattle showed how strong our team is," head coach Kim Gidley said. "The team took care of business in the doubles and got them to their quitting point in the singles. Chloe Forlini is getting better match by match and playing her best tennis yet of her four years. Afternoon losing a tough first set, she battled back to win the second set 6-0, getting her opponent to have a panic attack. In the third set, Chloe started to cramp and it was a "sheer will to win." It was unbelievable high level tennis!"

The Falcons improved to 8-5 this season. Air Force concludes a three-match weekend at UC Davis on Sunday.
