
Air Force Downed Sunday At UNLV

Air Force baseball (6-9, 0-6) dropped a 6-5 contest at UNLV (8-8, 4-2) on Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomores Nic Ready and Drew Wiss led the Falcons with three hits each.
Down 5-1, the Falcons scored two runs in the eighth and ninth innings to pull to within one at 6-5. UNLV pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth for the deciding run.
Air Force out-hit UNLV 14-12. Five Falcons had multiple-hit games. Both Ready and Wiss went 3-for-4. Ashton Easley, Russell Williams and Tyler Zabojnik had two hits each. Adam Groesbeck added a triple.
Starting pitcher Matt Hargreaves (1-1) took the loss. Hargreaves struck out three in four innings pitched. Ethan Nichols pitched the final four innings in relief, allowing one run.
UNLV had 12 hits in the game. Nick Rodriquez led five Rebels with multi-hit games, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Garrett Poole (2-1) pitched 7.2 innings in for the win. Bryan Menendez picked up the save.
The Rebels led 5-0 after scoring three runs in the third and two in the fourth. The Falcons got on the board with a run in the sixth. Air Force plated two in the eighth before UNLV responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 6-3 game. The Falcons scored the two runs in the top of the ninth but could not get the tying run.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, March 14, beginning a two-game home series with Portland.
