Air Force baseball (11-13) won a 1-0 pitchers' duel at Omaha (5-19) in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Isaacson Field at Seymour Smith Park in Omaha, Neb. Righthander Nick Biancalana (2-1) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the Falcons.
After walking the leadoff hitter, Biancalana retired 19 batters in a row. His no-hit bid was broken up with one out in the seventh inning on a bunt hit with two strikes. Biancalana and freshman Evan Floyd combined to toss a three-hit shutout.
Air Force got the lone run of the game on a solo home run by senior Tyler Jones in the fourth inning.
Biancalana worked 8.1 innings, allowing three base hit singles, while striking out four. Floyd picked up the save by inducing a game-ending double play in the ninth.
The Falcons had seven hits on the day. Senior Bradley Haslam had two hits and extended his hitting streak to 28 games. Senior Russell Williams added two hits as well.
Omaha reliever Peyton Kinney (0-1) took the loss. Starting pitcher Shane Meltz pitched one inning. Cole Thibodeau broke up the no-hitter with the bunt hit in the seventh.
"Nick Biancalana threw as good of a game possible and Evan Floyd got us out of a high-pressure situation in the ninth," Air Force head coach Mike Kazlausky said. "T.J. (Tyler Jones) came through with the jack and it was nice to earn the tough road win."
Air Force returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 29 at Creighton.
