Air Force baseball (12-15) dropped a 3-2 contest in 11 innings at Northwestern (8-18) in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Miller Park in Evanston, Ill. The Falcons lost on a walk-off home run by Northwestern.
Connor Lind hit a solo home run with one out in the 11th to rally the Wildcats to the win.
Air Force was unable to hold 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the game. The Falcons plated runs in the third and seventh innings, while Northwestern tied the game with runs in the sixth and eighth.
Air Force had 10 hits in the game. Adam Groesbeck, Bradley Haslam, Tyler Zabojnik and Russell Williams had two hits each for the Falcons. Groesbeck scored both of Air Force's runs, adding a triple and two stolen bases. Haslam extended his hitting streak to 31 games (a scoring change in game one of DH yesterday kept the streak alive).
Matt Hargreaves gave the Falcons seven strong innings in the start. Hargreaves allowed just one run off four hits, while striking out four. Evan Floyd, Jake Gilbert, Ryan Holloway and Nic Biancalana pitched in relief. Biancalana (2-2) took the loss.
Northwestern had nine hits in the game. Jack Dunn had two hits for the Wildcats. Reliever Josh Levy (2-1) picked up the win, pitching six innings. Starting pitcher Matt Gannon pitched five innings.
Air Force returns home for four home games this coming week. First up is a Tuesday, April 4 game, hosting Northern Colorado.
