
Air Force Wins Saturday, 10-5, Over UNLV

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball (14-15, 4-10 MW) defeated UNLV (11-22, 5-9 MW), 10-5, in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Falcon Field. A six-run fourth inning helped the Falcons to its second-straight win over the Rebels.
Sophomore Ethan Nichols (3-1) held the Rebels to four runs, three earned, in six innings pitched for the win. Relievers Nick Biancalana and Ryan Holloway closed out the game in relief. Biancalana pitched the seventh and eighth and Holloway the ninth.
Air Force had 12 hits and drew seven walks on the day. Five Falcons had multi-hit days.
Sophomore Nic Ready led the way, going 3-for-5 with two runs. Senior Tyler Jones had a pair of doubles to go with two walks and two RBIs. Seniors Adam Groesbeck and Russell Williams and sophomore Drew Wiss had two hits each.
The Falcons scored two in the first, one in the second and third and six in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead. UNLV scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
In the big fourth inning, Jones got things started with a two-run double. After back-to-back base loaded walks drawn by Ryan Robb and Rob Dau, Wiss capped the inning with a two-run single.
UNLV had 18 hits and stranded 13 baserunners. Leadoff hitter Kyle Isbel went 3-for-5 with a double, home runs and three runs scored. Starting pitcher Larry Quaney (1-3) allowed 10 runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
"We're handling our business at home," Air Force head coach Mike Kazlausky said. "Ethan, Nick and Ryan pitched well for us and our offense came up big, especially in the fourth. We look to continue to play well tomorrow."
The three-game series finale is tomorrow with first pitch at 1 pm MT.
