
Air Force Downed By San Diego State On Sunday

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball (25-24, 12-17 MW) lost to San Diego State (36-16, 19-8 MW), 17-5, in Mountain West action on Mother's Day and Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Falcon Field. Sophomore Nic Ready hit two home runs for the second straight day to lead the Falcons.
San Diego State scored three runs in the first, second and third innings to jump ahead 9-0. After a three-run homer by Ready in the fourth pulled the Falcons to within six at 9-3, SDSU scored six in the fifth to make it a 15-3 game.
Air Force had 11 hits on the day. Ready went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Tyler Jones and Shaun Mize added two hits. Jones extended his reached base-streak to an NCAA-leading 49 games. Adam Groesbeck went 0-for-5 at the plate to end his 30 game hitting streak.
Matt Hargreaves (3-5) took the loss in the start for the Falcons. Ryan Holloway, Tyler Mortenson, Joe Kincart and Shawn Kelley pitched in relief.
San Diego State had 18 hits. Danny Sheehan and Jordan Verdon had four hits each to lead the Aztecs. Tyler Adkison and Hunter Stratton hit home runs for SDSU. Cody Thompson (2-0) pitched seven innings for the win.
Prior to the game, Air Force honored its seniors, playing in their final Sunday home game. Jacob DeVries, Adam Groesbeck, Bradley Haslam, Griffin Jax, Tyler Jones, Shaun Mize, Nathan Stanford and Russell Williams were honored as the senior class of 2017.
Air Force returns to action, hosting Northern Colorado on Tuesday, May 16, for its final home game.
