
Air Force Downed Sunday at New Mexico

Air Force baseball (24-22, 11-15 MW) lost to New Mexico (28-20-1, 18-4-1 MW), 11-6, in Mountain West action Sunday afternoon at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, NM. Sophomores Daniel Jones and Nic Ready hit home runs for the Falcons.
Air Force was unable to hold a 5-2 lead, as a five-run fifth inning pushed New Mexico ahead for good.
Starting pitcher and leadoff hitter Luis Gonzalez (4-2) was a true two-way threat for the Lobos. Gonzalez pitched seven innings for the win on the mound. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, three runs and three RBIs.
Air Force out-hit New Mexico 14-12 on the day. Adam Groesbeck continues to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-5 with a double. Daniel Jones had the three-run shot as part of a four-run fourth inning for the Falcons. His brother, Tyler, had an RBI double to cap the fourth. The Jones brothers and Nic Ready had two hits each. Ready had a solo home run for the first run of the game in the second inning.
Starting pitcher Matt Hargreaves (3-4) pitched four innings in the loss. Tyler Mortenson, Ryan Holloway, Jake Gilbert and Shawn Kelly pitched in relief.
Air Force led 1-0 on Ready's home run in the second inning. The Lobos tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning and took a 2-1 lead with a run in the third.
The Falcons scored the four runs in the fourth inning to go up 5-4. New Mexico rallied with the five-run fifth. The Lobos added two runs in the sixth and runs in the seventh and eighth. Air Force added a run in the seventh.
Air Force returns to action Friday, May 12, beginning a three-game home stand with San Diego State.
