ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HOSTS RECEPTION FOR PARENTS OF INCOMING INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETES

Air Force director of athletics Jim Knowlton and the Air Force Academy Pride Club hosted a reception for parents of intercollegiate athletes during In-Processing Day at the Academy's Hall of Excellence.
Knowlton spoke to a group of around 300 family members of the incoming class of 2021. A student-athlete panel, made up of intercollegiate cadet-athletes was also available to discuss their experiences at the Academy and answer questions. The panel was made up of senior men's basketball player Frank Toohey, senior ice hockey players Phil Boje and Erik Baskin, junior women's volleyball player Shanleigh Conlan and sophomore tennis standout TJ Fumagalli.
The new class of Academy cadets reported today (June 29) to in-process and begin Basic Cadet Training, which is their initial indoctrination into military service. More than 1,200 members of the class of 2021 began reporting at 7 a.m. Among the activities, they received uniforms and haircuts, and are assigned to their training squadrons. The cadets will form up on the Terrazzo and take the Cadet Oath of Allegiance on Friday, June 30. Basic Cadet Training runs June 29 through Aug. 8 and includes uniform and dorm inspections, marching drills, physical conditioning and weapons training.
Additionally, basic cadets will receive lessons regarding first aid, honor and ethics, the Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Air Force's core values: Integrity First, Service Before Self and Excellence in All We Do.
