U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Danny Han's first period goal lifted the Falcons to a 1-0 victory in the season opener against Missouri State, Friday evening, at Cadet Soccer Stadium, USAFA.
Han found the back of the Bears' net in the 36th minute via Jaric Marton's assist. Marton led the Falcons with four shots on the match. The Falcon defense held the Bears to only six shots while the Air Force offense took 20, with nine shots coming on the Bears' cage.
John Wendt registered his first shutout of the season after defending three shots on goal by the bears. Four Falcons registered two shots on goal apiece.
"I was very happy with the win, but not so much with the performance," said head coach Doug Hill. "We were a little sluggish and a little too reactive. They didn't take the game on like I think they can."
"The best thing we got out of this game was the no-goal objective and we managed to do that," continued Hill. "Offensively however, if you get 20 shots then you should probably get a few goals as well but today we only got one. It's good when you don't play your best and still get the win, but we know that we have to do better on Sunday."
The Falcons return to the home pitch against the 23rd-ranked Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, Sunday, Aug. 27, at 11:30 a.m., at Cadet Soccer Stadium. A live stream and live stats will be provided for the match.
