U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force golf team posted its best finish since 2013 at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Academy's Eisenhower Blue Course. The Falcons shot a team score of 290 each day to place ninth with a three-round total of 870 (six-over par).
Wyoming won the 49th annual tournament with a 29-under par 835. The Cowboy shot 284-270-281 to win the 19-team tournament. Colorado State was second (-24, 840) while Colorado was third (-21 (843).
Wyoming's John Murdock won the individual title with a 14-under-par 202. He shot a 67 in the first round, 65 in the second and 70 in the third. His score was just three strokes shy of the tournament record. CSU' Max Oelfke was second with a nine-under 207.
Air Force's top individual was junior Tate Tatum who shot a three-under par 213. After back-to-back 72's in the first two rounds, he shot 69 in the final round. Senior Todd Millard, competing as an individual, shot even-par 216.
Air Force travels to Fort Collins, Colo., for the annual CSU Ram Masters, Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 18-19.
