
No. 7 UCSB defeats Falcons, 16-7

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara defeated Air Force, 16-7, in a non-conference college water polo game Saturday, Sept. 16, in Santa Barbara, Calif.
UCSB scored the first two goals of the game, but the Falcons scored the next three for a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Two goals by senior Jack Empey tied the game and then sophomore Mike Miller gave the Falcons a lead with 1:49 left in the first.
The Gauchos then scored the next four goals for a 7-3 lead, before freshman Neil Reynolds scored with 2:36 left in the second. UCSB scored with one second left for an 8-4 lead at the half. Empey scored two more goals for the Falcons in the third quarter, but the Gauchos had an 11-6 lead entering the fourth. UCSB outscored the Falcons 6-1 over the final eight minutes. The Falcons' lone tally of the period came from junior George Millard.
Freshman James Burke started in goal for the Falcons and made nine saves.
Air Force (1-5 overall this season) travels to Los Angeles, Calif., for the annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational, Sept. 22-24.
