Air Force wins season opener against Nevada and UTEP

The Air Force rifle team shot one of its best season openers on Saturday in the triangular match with the UTEP Miners and the Nevada Wolfpack at the Falcon Rifle Range.
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force rifle team shot one of its best season openers on Saturday in the triangular match with the UTEP Miners and the Nevada Wolfpack at the Falcon Rifle Range. The Falcons compiled the winning total 4702, besting the Miners' 4594 and the Wolfpack's 4589. The Falcons total score came from the 2328 in smallbore and 2374 in air rifle.
Senior Spencer Cap scored 300 in his first 30 shots before ending with a 596 to take the lead in air rifle. Cap was also the lead shooter in smallbore with a 585, and finished the day with an 1181.
Junior Logan Ogden and senior Anna Weilbacher both had a strong day as both shot 583s in the smallbore. Weilbacher also shot a 587 in air rifle and finished the match with 1170 points. In air rifle, freshman Casper Schadler came in strong with a 593, matching Ogden's 593 (1176) in the rifle. Schadler also scored a 572 in smallbore and finish with an 1165 in the match.
Freshman Peter Fiori scored a season best in air rifle with a 594 after scoring a 577 in smallbore, and compiling an 1171.
Sophomore Sarah Sawicki also shot with the Falcons, and registered an 1163, with a 573 in smallbore and 590 in the air rifle. Sophomore Belle Toney shot 577 in smallbore and 580 in air rifle (1157). Freshman walk-on, Alexandr Weisenburger fired a 576 in the air rifle match.
The Falcons and Miners went shoulder-to-shoulder on Sunday to wrap up the Falcons first home series of the season.
