
Falcons fall at Chapman, 15-14

Air Force heads to WWPA Championships, Nov. 16-18
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Chapman University scored three late goals for a come-from-behind 15-14 win over Air Force in a non-conference college water polo game, Saturday, Nov. 10, in Los Angeles, Calif. It was the final regular-season game for the Falcons as they prepare for the Western Water Polo Association Championships, Nov. 16-18, in Fresno, Calif.
The game see-sawed back and forth in the first quarter with each team scoring five goals. Air Force scored the first three goals of the second quarter as Michael Miller, Luke Andres and Campbell Harris gave the Falcons an 8-5 lead. Chapman scored a late goal as the Falcons led 8-6 at the half.
Power-play goals by Jason Hires and Edward Smet in the third gave the Falcons a 10-7 lead, but Chapman scored the next two. After a goal by Henry Yavitt with 1:40 left in the third, the Panthers scored the next two as the game was tied at 11-11 entering the fourth quarter. Back-to-back goals by Reagan Pittman gave the Falcons a 14-12 lead with 4:01 remaining. Chapman scored at 3:34 and 3:05 of the fourth quarter to tie the game, and then netted the game winner with 18 seconds left on the power play.
Chapman outshot Air Force, 38-30, in the game. Air Force was 6-for-17 on the power play while Chapman was 4-for-9. Sophomore goalie James Burke made 15 saves for the Falcons. Harris, Harrison, Miller and Pittman each scored two goals for Air Force.
Air Force (8-16, 3-4 WWPA) is the No. 5 seed in the WWPA Tournament, which begins Friday, Nov. 16, in Fresno, Calif. The Falcons will face fourth-seeded (and 12th-ranked), Cal Baptist, on Friday, at 11:15 am PT.
