Five Falcons Earn Victories at Army West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Five members of the Air Force boxing team collected victories this evening (Nov. 2) during the squad's annual showdown with service academy rival Army West Point. Competing on the USMA campus, the Falcons went 5-6 and junior William Ragland was named the team's Boxer of the Week.

Ragland captured the team's weekly honor after earning a 156-pound victory over Lawrence Shepherd during the night's sixth bout. Classmates Sean Chieves and Cenada Clifton-Smith also recorded victories tonight, as Chieves won his 139-pound bout with Nate Rodriguez and Clifton-Smith defeated Chandon Hutchinson by decision at 175 pounds. Seniors Josh Turner and Levi Knox rounded out the Falcons' lineup of victors, as the pair won their respective championships in the 160-pound (vs Justin Cooper) and 165-pound (vs AJ Farrow-Maynie) weight divisions.

The victories by Ragland and Chieves helped Air Force split the afternoon card in those two divisions – the only two weight classes to have multiple bouts. Junior Levi Rate dropped a decision to Adrian Albin in the day's other 156-pound bout, while sophomore Justin Couty lost his 156-pound bout to Luigi Galzerano.

Four other Falcons also competed in contests ranging from 147 pounds to the heavyweight division. Freshman Francisco Garcia dropped a 147-pound decision to Shane Ferry, while juniors Austin Dreyer (185 pounds, vs Manny Ahou), Jordan Garivay (201 pounds, vs Josh Louis) and Micah Mackaly (heavyweight, vs Toese Tia) also dropped decisions in their respective bouts.

Air Force returns to action on Friday, Nov. 9, when it travels to Reno, Nev., to take on National Collegiate Boxing Association opponent Nevada at 8:00 p.m. (PT).
