2018 CLIFF KEEN INVITATIONAL
Friday-Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1 | All Day
Las Vegas Convention Center | Las Vegas, Nev.
THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team returns to the mats this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, for the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Action from the Sin City will begin at 10 a.m. MT both days.
FOLLOWING THE ACTION: The CKLV can be followed via live results on FloArena, while each individual mat will have a live stream via FloWrestling ($). Results will also be posted on Twitter, @AFAWrestling.
LOADED FIELD: As always, the Cliff Keen Invite features some of the top talent in the country, and this season is no different with over 100 nationally ranked wrestlers represented across all 10 weight classes. In addition, 16 of the 25 teams ranked in the NWCA Coaches Poll will have wrestlers represented this weekend. Each team is eligible to send one wrestler per weight class.
RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND: The Falcons had successful days at both the Navy Classic, as well as the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open, Saturday, Nov. 17. The Falcons placed eight total wrestlers on the day, four at each tournament.
Senior co-captain Anthony McLaughlin highlighted the Navy Classic, as the 197 pounder placed runner-up in his weight class bracket. The veteran went 4-0, including three decisions and a major decision, on his way to the finals. There, he had to medically default before the championship match.
At the UNK Holiday Inn Open, junior Marcus Amico won the 165 lbs. elite bracket, which was the first tournament title in his college career.
LAST TIME AT CLIFF KEEN: Last season at the Cliff Keen Invite, the Falcons did not place a wrestler in the top eight of a weight class. Graduate Zen Ikehara and senior Isaac Jimenez led the Falcons with two wins apiece, but both eventually fell in the consolation rounds. Senior co-captain Alex Mossing has found success in the past, as he placed eighth at 157 lbs. as a sophomore in 2016.
NEXT UP: Air Force will host Big 12 rival North Dakota State in dual action inside Clune Arena Sunday, Dec. 9. Start time against the Bison will be 2 p.m. It will be USA Wrestling Day, as members and staff of Team USA will be in attendance, and will be honored during the intermission. The Falcons will also host a "Takedown Cancer" event in support of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Details can be found at takedowncancer.org.
