The Falcons will compete in both the Midlands and Southern Scuffle
Midlands/Southern Scuffle
Nov. 29-30/Jan. 1-2
Chicago, Ill./Chattanooga, Tenn.
THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team gets back into action following the holiday break as it will send a handful wrestlers to the Midlands Championships held in Chicago, Ill, Saurday-Sunday, Dec 29-30, while a majority of the primary starters will head to Chattanooga for the Southern Scuffle, Tuesday-Wendesday, Jan. 1-2.
FOLLOWING THE ACTION: Both tournaments can be watched via live stream on Flowrestling, while live results will be posted to TrackWrestling for Midlands, and FloArena for the Scuffle. Fans can also follow along on Twitter, @AFAWrestling.
LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons grabbed an early lead, but could not hang on in a tough 23-14 dual defeat to No. 19 North Dakota State in Big 12 action Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9, inside Clune Arena.
The Falcons won the first three matches, including one via pin, but NDSU won six out of the last seven matches to steal away the win. The big pin came courtesy of freshman Kayne Hutchison in his Air Force dual debut, and it came in just 31 seconds.
McLAUGHLIN NATIONALLY RANKED: Senior co-captain Anthony McLaughlin comes into the week nationally ranked by both FloWrestling and InterMat. The 197 pounder is ranked No. 20 by both outlets. McLaughlin is currently 7-0 on the season, including 3-0 in duals.
LAST SEASON AT THE SCUFFLE: Last year at the Southern Scuffle, Air Force had two grapplers finish within the top eight of their weight class. Sophomore Tony DeCesare was the top placer for AF, taking fifth at 125 lbs., while Isaac Jimenez placed eighth at 133 lbs.
NEXT UP: The Falcons will return to the mats for the 29th Annual Borah Duals, Saturday, Jan. 12, in Gunnison, Colo. The Falcons will take on Otero Junior College, Simon Fraser, and host Western Colorado throughout the day.
