Falcons finish fourth in Mountain Division with 3-5 mark
Air Force finished the season 5-7 overall and finished fourth in the MW's Mountain Division with a 3-5 mark.
The Falcons finished the season with a thrilling 27-19 victory over Colorado State to secure the Ram-Falcon Trophy for the third straight season and 24th time overall. The win was Air Force's third straight in the series, eighth straight at home and 11th win in the last 13 meetings against its in-state rival. Junior fullback Cole Fagan had a record-setting day in the win, rushing for 260 yards and a touchdown to set school records for most rushing yards by a fullback and most overall by a Falcon in a conference game. His 260 yards are the third most ever in school history.
Air Force won its second consecutive conference rushing title and 2018 marked the 37th straight season with a top three finish. The team finished the season ranked fourth nationally in rushing with a 283.5 average per game to mark the 31st time in the last 32 seasons the Falcons have had a top 10 national rank.
The Falcons opened the season with a 38-0 win over Stony Brook and beat service-academy Rival Navy, 35-7, in October. Air Force picked up its first conference win at UNLV, 41-35, behind a career night from Isaiah Sanders. The junior quarterback recorded 390 yards of total offense which is the second-most in school history. Sanders rushed for a season-high 173 yards and matched his career high with three touchdowns. He hit 9-11 passes for a career-best 217 yards and a touchdown, connecting on a career-long 69 yard pass for the score.
Air Force defeated New Mexico 42-24 behind a season-high 623 yards of total offense, including a season-high 486 rushing. Sophomore quarterback Donald Hammond III led the way with a career-best 136 yards and a touchdown while hitting 5-6 passes for 145 yards and two scores.
Air Force senior offensive lineman Griffin Landrum and sophomore defensive lineman Jordan Jackson were each named to the second-team all-Mountain West football team. Junior defensive back Jeremy Fejedelem was an honorable mention selection.
