
Falcons Place 11 on Academic All-Conference List

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ââ'¬" Eleven members of the Air Force cross country team earned Academic All-Mountain West honors, the league office announced this afternoon (March 21) for the achievements in the classroom during the fall semester. Represented by seven men and four women, the cross country squad collected the most honors of any sport at the Academy during the 2017 fall season.
With a 3.95 in mathematics, senior Katie Burnham registered the highest GPA for all Air Force fall honorees and captured academic all-conference accolades for the fourth straight year. Classmate Andrew Johnston (3.14, management) also garnered his fourth consecutive academic all-MW honor in cross country and brought the team's total of four-time academic selections to 16.
Juniors Noah Riley (3.65, political science), Jaci Smith (3.35, astronautical engineering) and Andrew Tankersley (3.30, behavioral science) captured their third academic all-conference honor, while sophomore Lindsey Blanks (3.86, operations research), junior All-American Mickey Davey (3.59, electrical engineering) and classmate Nathan Thomas (3.25, civil engineering) all collected their second. Junior Shanna Burns (3.03, civil engineering), senior Andrew Milliron (3.13, geospatial sciences) and sophomore Marshall Wheeler (3.63, systems engineering) rounded out the list of cross country honorees with their first academic all-conference selection.
A conference-record 618 student-athletes were named to the fall's academic all-conference team. Fall sports include men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball.
To be eligible for the conference's academic all-conference award, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a significant contributor on their athletic team.
