
Air Force Edged 6-3 By UNLV Friday Night

Air Force baseball (14-20, 6-8 MW) dropped a 6-3 Mountain West road contest at UNLV (25-11, 8-5 MW) Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Field in Las Vegas, Nev. Senior Ryan Robb led the Falcons with three base hits.
In a back-and-forth battle, it was UNLV that was able to take the upper hand and hold off the Falcons. After Air Force had just rallied to take a 3-2 lead, a two run fifth inning put the Rebels ahead for good.
Senior Ryan Holloway (2-3) kept the Falcons in the game, tossing six innings in the start. The left hander struck out a career-high eight batters. Junior Jake Gilbert pitched the seventh and eighth innings in relief.
Air Force had nine hits on the day. Robb led the way on offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate, with a walk, stolen base and run scored. Drew Wiss added two hits and Daniel Jones had two RBIs.
Alan Strong (6-0) remained undefeated for UNLV, allowing three runs in six innings. Bryan Menendez picked up the save.
UNLV had 12 hits. Kyle Isbel had two doubles to lead the Rebels.
Air Force scored the first run in the first, but UNLV scored two in the bottom of the inning. The Falcons rallied with two runs in the fourth to go up 3-2.
The Rebels took advantage of two Falcons errors in the fifth to score two runs and go ahead 4-3. UNLV added two insurance runs in the eighth.
Game two of the series is tomorrow at 2 pm PT.
