
Air Force Drops 7-6 Contest To New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball (23-25, 11-13 MW) dropped a 7-6 contest to New Mexico (17-31-1, 10-19 MW) in Mountain West action Friday afternoon at Falcon Field. The Lobos broke up a 6-6 tie with a run in the eighth inning.
In a back-and-forth battle, it was New Mexico that was able to get in the final go-ahead run. Derek Marshal hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Hayden Schilling for the go-ahead run in the eighth.
New Mexico reliever Christian Tripp (2-3) tossed three scoreless innings to close out the game and pick up the win.
Air Force was held to six hits on the day. Shortstop Tyler Zabojnik went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Daniel Jones also doubled and scored a run. Nic Ready extended his hit streak to 25 games with a base hit in the first inning. Rob Dau and Ashton Easley also had base hits.
Josh Leaser (1-2) took the loss in relief. Starter Ryan Holloway went 4.1 innings, striking out three. Joe Kincart, Shawn Kelley and Jake Gilbert also pitched in relief.
New Mexico had 15 hits. First baseman Jeff Deimling went 4 for 6 with two runs and two RBIs. Marshall added three hits. Lobos starting pitcher Justin Slaten went five innings, allowing six runs.
Both teams scored a run in the third inning to remain tied. New Mexico plated a run in the fourth before Air Force score two in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Lobos scored in the fifth to tie it up at 3-3. The two teams traded three runs each in the sixth to remain tied at 6-6. New Mexico scored the final run in the eighth.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 1 pm MT.
