The No. 16 ranking is the Falcons’ highest preseason placement since 2005.
NEW ORLEANS – The Air Force men's cross country team earned a No. 16 ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division I Men's National Preseason Rankings, which was released this morning (Aug. 28) by the USTFCCCA office. It is the Falcons' highest preseason placement since 2005 – and the first time since that year that they have had a top-25 mention in the preseason.
The men return a talented veteran lineup that includes senior All-American Mickey Davey, who finished 18th at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and classmate Jacob Bilvado, who claimed all-region honors last year and is a two-time all-conference selection. The returning roster also features three members of the scoring lineup that helped the Falcons place 15th at last year's NCAA Championships, as well as five of the seven runners that helped Air Force qualify to the national meet.
Air Force's men, under the direction of fifth-year coach Ryan Cole, were also listed sixth in the preseason standings of the USTFCCCA Mountain Region and third in the Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Falcons open the 2018 campaign on Friday (Aug. 31), when they travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., for the Wyoming Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. (MT), at Little America Hotel and Resort.
