
Air Force Boxing Opens Season This Friday

The Falcons will host Navy on Oct 5 and the 61st-annual Wing Open Championships on Feb. 28.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team kicks off the season this weekend, as it hosts the first of three Friday Night Fights on Sept. 21. Air Force, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Blake Baldi, will host seven events at the Academy this season, including a showdown with Navy and the 61st Wing Open Tournament.
In addition to hosting three rounds of Friday Night Fights this season (Sept. 21, Nov. 16, Jan. 18), Air Force will welcome Navy to the Cadet Gym Boxing Room on Oct. 5, before contesting the opening two rounds of the Wing Open Tournament on Feb. 15 (quarterfinals) and Feb. 22 (semifinals). The 2019 Wing Open Championship will round out the home slate on Feb. 28 in Clune Arena.
Air Force will head out on the road for eight regular-season competitions, with events in Reno, Nev. (Oct. 19, Feb. 1), Detroit, Mich. (Oct. 27), West Point, N.Y. (Nov. 2), New York, N.Y. (Nov. 19), Seattle, Wash. (Jan. 25-26), Santa Clara, Calif. (Feb. 16) and Berkeley, Calif. (Mar. 2). The National Collegiate Boxing Association's postseason begins with the Western Regional on March 14-16 and the National Championships on April 4-6.
The Falcons' roster includes one NCBA champion (Levi Knox), six NCBA All-Americans (Austin Dreyer, Jordan Garivay, Knox, RJ Leon, Levi Rate, Devon Smith), five regional champions (Dreyer, Garivay, Leon, Rate, Josh Turner) and eight Wing Open champions (Sean Chieves, Dreyer, Garivay, Knox, Leon, Rate, Smith, Turner).
