THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team heads west for the 29th Annual Tracy Borah Duals, Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Mountaineer Field House on the campus of Western Colorado University. The Falcons will take on various opponents throughout the day of dual competition.
FOLLOWING THE ACTION: The Borah Duals can be followed via live results on TrackWrestling, while the matches versus host Western Colorado will be streamed on gomountaineers.com. Fans can also follow along on Twitter, @AFAWrestling.
LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons competed at the 2019 Southern Scuffle Tuesday-Wednesday, Jan. 1-2, inside McKenzie Arena on the campus of Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Falcons had three grapplers who were eliminated one win shy of a placement.
Freshman Sidney Flores, and seniors John Twomey and Alex Mossing day two in the vaunted "bloodround" with a chance to win and finish in the top eight of their respective weight classes. Despite some close matches, including a sudden victory defeat for Twomey, all three were felled in their matches and finished just outside the top eight.
As a team over the two-day event, Air Force had 19 team wins, and totaled 24.5 points, to finish tied for 18th in the 23-team field.
LAST SEASON AT THE BORAH DUALS: Air Force swept the Borah Duals for the sixth-straight time, recording 11 bonus point victories in 27 matches. The Falcons posted a 28-11 victory over host school, Western State. In the following duals, Air Force defeated New Mexico Highlands and Colorado Mesa, 32-18 and 27-14, respectively.
BORAH HISTORY: The Falcons have participated in every Borah event since its inception in 1991. Air Force holds a 25-15 all-time record in the Borah Duals, which began back in 2007. Prior to that, the event was known as the Borah Invitational, which the Academy won team titles at in 1994 and 1997.
NEXT UP: The Falcons dip back into conference dual action with its first two road duals of the season, beginning with a trip up to Laramie to take on No. 12 Wyoming Friday, Jan. 18. That is followed by a trek to Iowa to take on the No. 14 ranked Northern Iowa Panthers, Sunday, Jan. 20.
