Air Force Falls At San Diego State
1/30/2019 11:01:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SAN DIEGO Calif. — Air Force men's basketball (9-12, 4-5) suffered a 66-51 setback at San Diego State (12-8, 4-3) Wednesday night at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl. Lavelle Scottie led the Falcons with 22 points.
A sluggish first-half had the Falcons trailing by double-digits early. The Falcons shot just 31 percent from the field in the opening half and went into halftime trailing 36-19 at the half. The Aztecs also out-shot the Falcons 7-1 on three's to build the early lead.
The Falcons played much better in the second half, out-scoring the Aztecs 32-30 in the second half. The early deficit was too big a hurdle to overcome however.
Scottie tied his season-high for points, shooting 9 of 18 from the field. The junior added two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
AJ Walker was the second Falcon in double-figures, scoring 10 points to go with four rebounds. Walker also knocked down two of the team's four made three's on the night.
Chris Joyce came off the bench to score eight points making the other two three's. Sid Tomes was Air Force's leading rebounder with five. Tomes also led the Falcons with four assists.
Devin Watson led four Aztecs in double figures with 15 points. Jalen McDaniels recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Falcons shot 37.3 percent from the field on the night and 23.5 percent from three point range. Air Force forced 16 San Diego State turnovers but were only able to convert four points off turnovers on the night. The Falcons were out-rebounded 38-27.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 2, hosting Colorado State. The game tips at 2 pm MT and will be broadcast by the Mountain West Network.
