The Falcons' No. 14 ranking is the women's highest DI ranking in Academy history.
NEW ORLEANS – Following its impressive performance at last week's Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, the Air Force women's cross country team vaulted into the top 15 of the NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches' Poll, which was released this morning (Oct. 22) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Falcons jumped up seven spots to No. 14 in the latest national rankings – the highest NCAA DI placement by a women's team in Academy history.
With junior Mahala Norris and sophomore Mikayla Gallagher placing within the top 30 of the 252-runner 6K event, Air Force finished eighth in a stacked 36-team field that included 20 of the nation's top-30 programs. The women easily outperformed their (then) No. 21 ranking, taking eighth overall and finishing ahead of seven higher-ranked squads, including a pair of top-six teams.
On the men's side, Air Force continues to receive votes in the coaches' poll. The Falcons, who bettered three Top-30 teams during a 21st-place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational, collected 12 points this week and sits just four spots outside of the national rankings. The Air Force men have received a mention in the national conversation during the last 22 polls, dating back to the 2017 season.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Nov. 1, when they open the postseason at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships in Logan, Utah.
