Air Force hosts Utah State Saturday, Oct. 26, at 8:15 p.m. MT in Falcon Stadium
Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun met with the media Tuesday to talk about Air Force's game this week vs. Utah State.
Air Force is having a White Out for the Utah State game to honor long-time Falcon mascot, Aurora, who passed away earlier this season. Air Force and Utah State meet for the eighth time overall and seventh as conference foes. The Falcons lead the series, 4-3, overall and are 3-3 in conference games. The Falcons are 3-1 at home and 1-2 at Utah State. The last four games in the series have been decided by 10 points or less
Air Force is 3-0 at home this season and have scored 40-plus points in all three games and have a 132-55 scoring margin which is an average of 44.0 to 18.3. Air Force would improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain West with a victory.
Utah State defeated Air Force, 42-32, in Logan, Utah, last season. The Aggies scored late in the second quarter to take a 21-14 halftime lead and appeared to put the game away in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns to extend the lead to 35-14, with 8:15 remaining. Air Force got a field goal from Jake Koehnke, the first of his career, late in the quarter and Kadin Remsberg scored his first-career touchdown early in the fourth quarter and a two-point conversion cut the lead to 35-25. Christopher Musselman recovered a fumble on the kickoff and returned it 21 yards for a score to cut the lead to 35-32 with 13:00 minutes to play. Utah State put the game away with a Gerold Bright 70-yard scoring run with 6:52 remaining to make up the final margin. Air Force had 471 total yards on a school-record 107 plays. Remsberg led the Falcons with 94 yards rushing in his first-career start. Isaiah Sanders hit 9-17 passes for 125 yards. The Aggies had 489 total yards, including 356 passing. Quarterback Jordan Love hit 26 of 38 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns. Bright added 101 yards rushing.
A second half surge lifted Air Force to a 38-35 come-from-behind victory in the home finale against Utah State in 2017 in the last meeting at Falcon Stadium. In his debut as a starter, quarterback Isaiah Sanders rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns on a school-record 44 carries to lead the Falcons. The teams exchanged scores in the first half and Utah State led, 21-17, at the half. Sanders opened the second half with a TD run to put the Falcons in front for the first time. The teams exchanged scores in the second half until Sanders put Air Force ahead for good with his third TD run with 1:38 remaining. Air Force had 440 total yards, including 407 rushing, while Utah State had 521 total yards. Fullback Jacob Stafford chipped in with 112 yards rushing for Air Force while the defense was led by Grant Ross with nine tackles. Bright led Utah State with 102 yards rushing while Love hit 17 of 30 passes for 284 yards.
