Saturday marks the final home game for six seniors
This Week: Air Force (9-14 overall, 0-4 WWPA) hosts a pair of games on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons host an exhibition game against Army at 8:15 am MT and then a conference game against California Baptist at 10:30 am MT.
Follow the Falcons: A live stream and live stats will be available for the game against CBU with links on the Air Force water polo schedule. The stream and live stats will not be available for the Army game.
The Series vs. CBU: Air Force and CBU will meet for the 36th time and the Falcons hold a 21-14 lead in the series that began in 1999. The teams met twice last season and split the two games. CBU won the conference game, 10-7, while the Falcons won the WWPA Tournament game, 6-5.
Scouting the Lancers: California Baptist is 12-13 and 1-2 in the WWPA. The Lancers are ranked 19th in the nation in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association poll. The Lancers are coming off of two victories over ranked teams last week with wins over No. 18 St. Francis and No. 15 Bucknell. CBU owns a conference win over Santa Clara, 15-13, on Oct. 24. The Lancers face No. 13 Loyola Marymount on Oct. 31. Joseph Galgani leads the team, and is fifth in the league, with 49 goals. He leads the conference with 100 points.
Last Weekend: Concordia's Marius Jakimcikas scored the game-winner in overtime lift the Eagles to a 13-12 overtime win, Oct. 26, in Irvine, Calif. Campbell Harris got the Falcons on the board just 13 seconds into the game and then goals by Luke Andres and Corey Tanis gave Air Force a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Harris added his second goal of the game on the five-meter shot 15 seconds into the second quarter and then two goals by Sam Fuller put the Falcons up, 6-2, at 4:16 of the second. Gavin Jones found the back of the net with 15 seconds left as the Falcons led 7-3 at the half. Concordia out-scored Air Force, 5-0, in the third quarter for an 8-7 lead entering the fourth. The Eagles took a 9-7 lead on a power-play goal by Jakimcikas. Henry Yavitt and Jones tied the game with 4:29 remaining. After an Eagle goal, Grant Snyder and Fuller scored for an 11-10 Falcon lead with 2:07 left. Jakimcikas scored with 16 seconds remaining to tie the game at 11-11 and force overtime. Eagle Austin Barton scored at 2:18 of the first overtime for a 12-11 lead. Snyder tied the game at 2:41 of the second overtime period, but Jakimcikas' game-winner came with 67 seconds remaining.
Senior Day: Prior to the game against CBU, the Falcons will honor the six members of the senior class: Kevin Hansen, Reagan Pittman, Luke Andres, Mike Miller, Eric Kawecki and Owen Sedej. The class has combined to play in 418 games and feature's this season's top two scorers and three of the top five.
The Helping Hand: Senior Reagan Pittman leads the conference and is third in the nation with 51 assists this season. Pittman also ranks seventh in the conference, and leads the team, with 60 points. He has two or more assists in 13 games this season, including a career-best six against La Verne, Chapman and UC Davis. In the win over Brown, he had a career-high four goals. Pittman also leads the team with 12 field blocks and is second on the team with 25 steals this season.
The Water Cheetah: Senior Mike Miller's speed has gained Air Force the first possession more times than not. Miller leads the nation with 65 sprint victories this season. Miller is 65-9 in sprints this season, and his .879 winning percentage is the best in the conference (among players who have more than 25 sprints). Miller is also 10th in the league in goals scored with 43, including a career-high six in the win over Chapman.
Between the Pipes: Sophomore Anthony Tolbert ranks fourth in the league in saves (138) and steals (32). He made a season-high 12 saves against No. 8 Long Beach State, Sept. 22. He has had 11 twice four times season, including the last two games against Concordia and UC San Diego.
