Women's Soccer Concludes 2019 Season with Defeat to Colorado College

USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy women's soccer team fell in a heartbreaker to Colorado College, 3-2, Friday evening, Nov. 1, inside the Holaday Athletic Center. The match was tied into the final five minutes of regulation, before CC scored on a free kick.

Shots were almost dead even, with CC tallying 17 and AF 16. The Falcons had seven shots on net, to CC's six, however. Both of Air Force's goal were scored by junior Emma Nelson, her sixth and seventh on the season, respectively. Her first was assisted by senior Erin Speer, while the second was unassisted.

The start of the game was mostly controlled by the Tigers, as they had a vast majority of the shots and corner kicks. The Falcons were able to rally back in the 24th minute, as Nelson took a pass from Speer, and she buried a shot from 25 yards out in the top right corner to open the scoring.

Unfortunately about two minutes later, an errant clearance found the back of the net, resulting in an own goal, tying it at 1-1. About 10 minutes later, CC got the go ahead goal in the 35th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half.

In the second half, AF kept the pressure on, and eventually found the equalizer in the 67th minute as Nelson was able to jar the ball loose from the goalie in the box for her second goal. With both teams fighting for the go ahead goal in the final few minutes, a foul occurred right outside the box in the 85 minute, setting up CC with a golden opportunity, and they capitalized, scoring what ended up being the game winning goal to saddle AF with the 3-2 defeat.

That wraps up the 2019 season for the Falcons, as they conclude one of the best season's in program history. The 10 wins are the most since 1999, while the .583 winning percentage is the best in the Division I era (since 1996). In addition, Air Force's 36 goals scored is the most since 2000 and third-most all-time, while the seven shutouts are the most since 2010.
