Falcons Place Three at the Navy Classic

Sidney Flores, Jared Van Vleet, and Kayne Hutchison all placed within the top six of their weight class
ANNAPOLIS, Md. –The Air Force Academy wrestling team concluded action at the Navy Classic, Saturday evening, Nov. 23, at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Falcons placed three wrestlers in the top six of their respective weight classes.
Overall, AF sent 15 wrestlers on the mats throughout the day, and finished with 60.5 points, good for a 10th place finish in a field of 18 top teams. Sophomores Jared Van Vleet and Kayne Hutchison took fourth place at 133 and heavyweight, respectively, while classmate Sidney Flores placed sixth at 125 lbs.
Van Vleet had the biggest win of the day, as he knocked off No. 18 nationally ranked Collin Gerardi of Virginia Tech. As a whole, Van Vleet went 3-2 with two decision wins and a major decision in the first round.
Over at heavyweight, Hutchison, who is ranked No. 22 in the nation, claimed wins by fall in the first round, and then 8-5 decision over No. 30 Christian Rebottaro in round two.
For Flores, who is ranked No. 15 in the country, had four wins on the day, including a pin and two major decisions. He also defeated No. 30 ranked Korbin Meink.
Elsewhere, AF had four wrestlers finish one win away from a top six placement, as freshman Graham Shore at 125 lbs., senior Randy Meneweather at 165 lbs., and senior Tyler Wiederholt and junior Cody Surratt at 174 lbs. were all one win shy.
Air Force is now off from competition until the New Year, when they head to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the annual Southern Scuffle. The two-day tournament runs Wednesday-Thursday, Jan. 1-2.
