LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons had a 1-1 weekend, falling to No. 2 Oklahoma State in a Big 12 dual, Friday, Feb. 8, while knocking off non-conference foe Cal Poly, 39-6, Sunday, Feb. 10. Air Force used six wins via bonus points to cruise to the dual win at Cal Poly. Overall, the Falcons won eight bouts, six by bonus points, a seventh by decision, and an eighth via forfeit. The Falcons were led by three pins on the afternoon, from junior Randy Meneweather at 174 lbs. and by freshmen Jake Thompson at 184 lbs. and Kayne Hutchison at heavyweight. The other three bonus point victories were via major decision, and all three were shutouts. AF's only two defeats were by tight 3-2 decisions.
ALL-TIME VERSUS OKLAHOMA: Friday marks the fourth meeting between the Falcons and Sooners, but the first as Big 12 conference foes. The prior three meetings occurred from 1969-1972, with OU taking all three. The last time the two met on Feb. 19, 1972, Oklahoma blanked Air Force, 36-0.
ALL-TIME AGAINST UTAH VALLEY: Saturday will be the 15th all-time meeting between the Falcons and Wolverines. The tally is dead even at 7-7, with each team practically trading wins since the series began back in 2003. The old Western Wrestling Conference rivals faced off as Big 12 foes last season inside Clune on Senior Day, with Air Force knocking off the then 25th ranked Wolverines, 26-10.
THANK YOU SENIORS!: Saturday will be Senior Night inside Clune Arena, as the Falcons will honor a 10-man class. The Class of 2019 includes Beau Billingsley, Luke Boyle, Josh Giorgio, Isaac Jimenez, Alex Lopouchanski, Anthony McLaughlin, Alex Mossing, Josh Mossing, Adam Pelter, and John Twomey.
THREE FALCONS IN COACHES PANEL: The first of four NCAA Coaches Panel rankings were released Thursday, Jan. 24, and there were three Air Force grapplers within the top-33 of their respective weight classes. Freshman Sidney Flores is 30th at 125 lbs, senior Alex Mossing is 29th at 157 lbs., and senior Anthony McLaughlin is 30th at 197 lbs. The Coaches Panel is one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine qualifiers and seeding for the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
NEXT UP: The Falcons conclude their dual schedule when they head up the road to Greeley to take on Northern Colorado in a Big 12 dual, Sunday, Feb. 24. Start time against the Bears is set for 2 p.m.
