Wrestling Drops Home Dual to Oklahoma

USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy wrestling team fell to the University of Oklahoma in Big 12 dual action, 31-9, Friday evening, Feb. 15, inside Clune Arena.

The Falcons (5-6, 1-5 Big 12) won two bouts on the night, highlighted by a pin from senior co-captain Alex Mossing at 157 lbs. It was his sixth of the season, and moved his record to 17-12 on the year and 3-3 in Big 12 duals.

The dual started at 165 lbs. as Air Force had a pair of matches that came down to the final minutes. A sudden victory defeat at 184 lbs., followed by a late takedown to seal a top-33 showdown at 197 lbs., made it 13-0 in favor of the Sooners (8-5, 3-2 Big 12) into heavyweight.

There, freshman Kayne Hutchison continued his impressive rookie campaign with a solid 9-4 decision victory. The Kansas native moved to 9-5 on the year, and 6-3 in duals (3-2 Big 12).

From there, Oklahoma used a forfeit and three major decisions to break the scoring open. In the final match of the night, Mossing brought the fans to their feet with his pin in the second period, capping off the 31-9 final.

Air Force has a quick turnaround, as they will face Utah Valley tomorrow evening, Feb. 16, for Senior Night. Action against the Wolverines is set for 7 p.m. with the ceremony taking place right before the dual. The Falcons will honor a 10-man senior class.
