Falcons Wrap up Regular Season in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Freshmen combined for all three Air Force victories as the boxing team split its final weekend of the regular season at the Dodge Ackerman Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif., on Saturday, Feb. 16. After leading the squad's youngest members to a 3-1 mark, Justin Hontanosas was named the program's Boxer of the Week.
Hontanosas earned a 165-pound victory over Washington's Kevin Castro, while classmate Madison Lloyd won her 139-pound bout over Irene Heo of UCLA and fellow freshman Zach Phillips claimed a 156-pound victory after forcing the referee to stop his contest with UC Davis' Simon Zhang in the third round.
Freshman Lawrence Barrett dropped a 125-pound decision to California's Marcos Lopez, while junior Levi Rate lost a 165-pound contest to San Jose State's Marquest Anderson and sophomore Emily Rickman was decisioned by Chloe Beverina of UCLA at 156 pounds.
The Falcons return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21, when the host the semifinal round of the annual Wing Open tournament. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. (MT) inside the Cadet Gym Boxing Room.
