
12 Falcons Named to Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team

Air Force had the second-most honored in the conference
Irving, Texas – The Air Force Academy wrestling team had 12 athletes named to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team, the conference announced, Thursday, Feb. 21. The 12 ties a program high that was set last season, as six were named to the first team, and six to the second team.
The Falcons had the second-most selections of any team on the 91-member list, as Utah Valley had 14 honored. The team features 22 student-athletes from Conference member institutions Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia. Student-athletes from the league's affiliate members in the sport, Air Force, Fresno State, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming, totaled 69 selections.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Air Force's first team members included seniors Alex Lopouchanski (Management) and Luke Boyle (Civil Engineering), as well as juniors Marcus Amico (Foreign Area Studies), Garrett O'Shea (Operations Research), Alec Opsal (Civil Engineering), and Tyler Wiederholt (Geospatial Science). Lopouchanski, Amico, O'Shea, Opsal, and Wiederholt all earned first team accolades for the second time in their careers, while Boyle is a first time honoree.
On the second team, Air Force has seniors Josh Giorgio (Management), Anthony McLaughlin (Management), Josh Mossing (Systems Engineering), and Adam Pelter (Behavioral Science), as well as sophomores Tony DeCesare (Management) and Casey Jumps (Political Science). McLaughlin earned his third Academic All-Big 12 second team honor, while Giorgio was recognized for the second time (2018 first team). Mossing, Pelter, DeCesare, and Jumps were all selected for the first time.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years, and meet all the criteria except percent of participation, are also eligible.
