
Kylie Stronko Re-Sets School Record on Day Two of MW Championships

Overall, AF had four top-10 Academy times
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team ramped up the action on day two of the 2019 Mountain West Championships Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Falcons saw a program record re-set, while three other swims found the top 10 in program history.
Air Force swimmers competed in the 500 free, the 200 IM, the 50 free, as well the 400 medley relay, while the divers competed for the 3-meter crown. Overall, 13 Falcon swimmers had personal lifetime-best times.
Sophomore Kylie Stronko had the biggest highlight on the day, as she broke her own Academy record in the 100 back. Her opening swim of the 400 medley relay timed in at 54.43, breaking the record that she set last year (54.92). The relay team finished in ninth place in the event with a season-best time of 3:44.34.
In the opening event of the day, senior Elisabeth Brechbuhl qualified for the 500 free finals, where she took 21st with a 4:56.38. That time is good for the fifth-best in program history.
Over in the 200 IM, senior Emma Strom and junior Heidi Schellin both qualified for the finals. Strom turned in an 11th place finish, with a 2:02.41. Her prelim time of 2:02.10 improved on her second-fastest Academy 200 IM time by .49 seconds. Meanwhile, Schellin placed 22nd with a 2:04.11.
In the 50 free, Air Force did not qualify anyone in the finals, but in the prelims, junior Autumn Wolfgramm raced to a 23.58 time, which is the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Over on the diving board, the Falcons competed in the 3-meter. All four Falcons scored points for Air Force, led by junior Eve Fowler placing 17th with a 262.65, her season high.
As a team, AF has 176 points, which is currently good for 10th place.
Day three of the MW Championships continues tomorrow, Feb. 22, with six more events. The Falcons will compete in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 200 free relay. Action from Minnesota gets started with prelims at 10 a.m. MT and finals at 5:30 p.m. MT.
