
Falcons Conclude 2019 WAC Championships

Air Force placed fourth with 593 points
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving concluded its time at the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championships Saturday evening, March 2, at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston. The Falcons finished the four day event in fourth place with 593 points.
Day four was highlighted by four more top five individual finishes, while there were six new Academy top 10 times.
Leading the way was junior Zach Nelson, who had yet another runner-up finish, this time in the 200 breast. The California native clocked in with a 1:56.56, which improved his top-10 time from fourth to third fastest. Also in the finals of tat event was freshman Wyatt Foote, as he placed eighth with a 2:00.35, the seventh-fastest in Academy history.
In the opening event of the night, the 1650 freestyle, freshman Adam Grimm raced to a third place finish, touching in with a 15:27.96, to set the ninth fastest in program history. The other freestyle event, fellow freshman Matthew Lattin also placed third, clocking in with a 43.81. His prelim time of 43.58 was good for fourth fastest in program history.
Air Force's best finishes came in the 200 fly, as three Falcons placed in the top nine. Sophomore Peter Lochmaier was the top placer, taking third with a 1:46.68. Behind him in sixth place was freshman Andrew Limpert, as he timed in with a 1:47.43, the fifth fastest in program history. Freshman Aaron Pang was the third finisher, placing ninth with a 1:47.27, the fourth quickest.
In the final individual event, the 200 back, freshman Isaac Gwin won the 'B' final, taking ninth place with a 1:47.61, the fastest time for a Falcon this season.
The lone relay of the day was the 400 freestyle relay, and the squad of Lattin, Gwin, Lochmaier, and freshman Corey Shepard sped to a second place finish and a season-best time 2:56.82.
Over on the diving board, the Falcons competed in the platform dive. Sophomore Cole Armagost took first in the 'B' final, finishing in ninth place with a 246.65, the best score for a Falcon this season.
As a team, Air Force had 16 top three finishes in events, while setting 15 new Academy top 10 times. This was led by freshman Isaac Gwin, who set the new school record in the 100 back. Finally, AF had six NCAA 'B' cut times from Lattin in the 50 and 100 free, Gwin in the 100 back, Nelson in the 100 and 200 breast, and Lochmaier in the 200 fly.
