Senior Isaac Perez of Air Force men's tennis won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Arthur Ashe Leadership/Sportsmanship National Award, announced by the ITA office. Perez was honored with the national award after receiving the Mountain Region award a day earlier.
Perez, the team captain, recently completed his four years with men's tennis with 80 career wins. He is a two-time recipient of the Air Force Men's Tennis Coach Gugat "Attitude is Everything" Award. Off the court, Perez was active at the Academy as the wing staff public affairs officer. During the summer prior to his senior year, Perez was the vice commander of the Air Force Summer Sports Camps. The San Antonio, Texas, native is slated to attend undergraduate pilot training upon graduation.
"Isaac had a tennis career like few others at the Air Force Academy and led our team with the character of a champion," head coach Dan Oosterhous said. "Isaac was a role-model for my team the day he stepped on our courts and has always displayed the utmost respect and sportsmanship while representing the Academy."
Air Force recently completed the 2018-19 season with a 12-13 record, its winningest season since 2014.
