Wrestling Concludes Time at Southern Scuffle

The Falcons had three wrestlers fall one win shy of a placement
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Air Force Academy wrestling team wrapped up its time at the Southern Scuffle, Thursday afternoon, Jan. 2, at McKenzie Arena on the campus of Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Falcons had three wrestlers make it to day two of the prestigious tournament, and all three fell just shy of a placement.
Coming into today, AF had junior Lenny Petersen, senior Randy Meneweather, and junior Cody Surratt advance to day two of their respective weight classes. All three were felled in the Bloodround, and finished just one win shy of a placement in the top eight. As a team, AF finished with 36.5 points, good for a 17th place finish out of 29 teams.
Petersen was the only of the three not to compete, as he medically defaulted out of the tournament. Petersen finished the event with a 4-1 record, including two pins. He is now 16-4 on the year. Meneweather and Surratt both dropped their bloodround matches, Meneweather to Joe Lee of Penn State, and Surratt to No. 17 Daniel Bullard of NC State by 7-2 decision.
The Falcons will return to the mats for the 30th Annual Borah Duals, Saturday, Jan. 11, in Gunnison, Colo. The Falcons will take on numerous programs in dual action throughout the day.
