
Air Force Men’s Tennis Alumni Spotlight: Lance Wilhelm

Air Force men's tennis is highlighting its alumni that have come through the program. Our first men's tennis alumnus is 2013 Academy graduate Capt. Lance Wilhelm. Wilhelm was a four-time team MVP and two-time All-Mountain West selection in both singles and doubles.
Year of Graduation: 2013
Accolades:
- Ranked 82nd in NCAA Div. I singles rankings as a senior in 2013.
- Awarded Mountain Region Senior of the year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
- 2013 team co-captain
- All-Mountain West Singles and Doubles in 2012 and 2013
- 4x team MVP
In the Air Force:
1) Nondestructive Evaluation Research Scientist - Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, AFRL
2) Executive Officer – Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, AFRL
3) Director of Operations – AFRL Maker Hub
4) Chief of Laboratory Operations – Harkins Laboratory Complex, AFTAC
Current Job:
Chief of Laboratory Operations – Harkins Laboratory Complex in Colorado Springs, but about to move to Washington state, to be the Support Flight Commander for the 361 RCS (Recruiting Squadron) at joint base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Wash.
Favorite Hobbies:
Mountain Biking, Analytics/Programming
While at USAFA, what was your favorite thing/memory with the team:
Getting to play tennis and compete in places around the country with my friends.
After graduation, what do you miss most about the team:
The family aspect of having a group of close friends that you won, lost, competed, and learned with on a daily basis.
Quote/Advice for the team:
Keep your head down and work hard. Enjoy your years at the Academy with some of your closest friends and get ready for many more adventures and good times once you graduate!
