The Falcons will open the delayed 2020 season at Colorado State on Feb. 5.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force volleyball team will begin its delayed 2020 season in February, the Academy announced today with the release of the 2020 Mountain West schedule. The Falcons' calendar, which includes four weekends at home under the abbreviated schedule, will include 16 conference contests and a pair of matches against their service academy rivals.
The conference, which postponed the season in early August due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, announced that the Spring season would feature a 16-match conference-only schedule that included a hybrid schedule with teams facing six opponents twice and four opponents once. The regular-season champion will be the Mountain West's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Championships.
"We are very excited to have a season for our seniors," second-year head coach Keith Barnett said of the schedule announcement. "This is an incredibly talented team with nine upperclassmen – the largest group of upperclassmen since the 2014 season."
The Falcons open the delayed 2020 season on Feb. 5-6, when they travel to Fort Collins to face Colorado State, winners of the last three conference titles. The home portion of the Mountain West season begins the following weekend (Feb. 12-13) against San Jose State and, following a trip to Nevada over the Feb. 19-20 weekend, Air Force returns to the Academy for back-to-back weekends, hosting New Mexico (Feb. 26-27) and Fresno State (March 5-6) at Cadet East Gym.
Following a mid-season bye week, Air Force will be back on the road March 19-20 to take on Utah State for its final two-match series of the year. Home contests against Wyoming (March 25) and Boise State (March 27), as well as road trips to San Diego State (April 1) and UNLV (April 3), round out the MW slate.
The Falcons are also scheduled to play two non-conference contests this year, traveling to West Point, N.Y., to take on service academy rivals Army West Point (April 10) and Navy (April 11) at the conclusion of the conference campaign.
Regarding fan attendance for home contests, the safety and well-being of cadets, coaches, staff and the local community continues to be the top priority for Air Force during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Academy will continue to work with local and state public health officials and will welcome fans to Cadet East Gym if conditions permit.
