Air Force Downed By Utah State On New Year’s Eve

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (3-4, 1-2 MW) dropped an 83-48 Mountain West contest to Utah State (6-3, 3-0 MW) on New Year's Eve Thursday afternoon at Clune Arena. Sophomore Nikc Jackson led the Falcons with 11 points.

Utah State forced Air Force into 26 turnovers, which led to a 45-5 advantage in points off turnovers. Forward Justin Bean led five players in double figures for Utah State with a game-high 15 points.

Jackson was the lone Falcon to reach double-figures, shooting 5 of 8 from the field. The forward added four rebounds and three assists.

Senior Ameka Akaya was the next leading scorer with eight points off the bench. Akaya was 3 of 4 from the field. Fellow seniors Chris Joyce and Keaton Van Soelen added six points each.

Junior AJ Walker scored four points with team-high's of five rebounds and three assists.

The Falcons shot 48 percent from the field but just 29 percent from three point range. Utah State shot 52 percent from the field and made 12 three's on the day at a 40 percent clip.

The Falcons and Aggies will play the second game of the two-game series this Saturday, Jan. 2. Tip time is 4 pm MT and the game will be broadcast by STADIUM.
