Falcons get ready for conference rifle championships

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Air Force Academy rifle team is on track to compete in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships on Feb. 15-16 at the TCU Rifle Range in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to the championships, the Falcons will compete in a match against Alaska on Feb. 14 at TCU.
Air Force will be defending the 2019 championship title, which the Falcons won with a conference-team record score of 4708. Five team members earned conference honors several times. The championship schedule is Feb. 15 smallbore followed on by the air rifle championships on Feb. 16.
Falcons to watch: Sophomore Peter Fiori (Lebanon, NJ) is averaging 1178.75 this season, and senior Logan Ogden (Gallway, NY) is averaging 1173 points. Junior Nate Peterson (Sharpsburg, GA) has an 1158 individual average, and sophomore Maliya Hillman (Spokane, WA) is averaging 1153.75. Sophomore Devin Schwindt (Lees Summit, MO) and freshman Jordan Williams (Colorado Springs, CO) are tied with an 1151.625 for individual averages. All shooters are possible contenders as the Falcons' top shooters in the championships.
NCAAs: Following the conference matches, Air Force will host the NCAA Qualifier match against TCU at the Falcon Rifle Range on Feb. 22. The NCAA Selection Committee will announce on Feb. 25 the eight qualifying teams for the NCAA Rifle Championships, which will be held on March 13-14 in Lexington, KY.
2020 Olympic Trials: Fresh off of the Olympic Team Trials, the team's 2020 Olympic hopefuls competed in the Air Rifle Selection Match, part II, Feb. 7-9. Finishing in fourth place, Fiori secured a spot as alternate for the men with an Olympic score of 2501.8. Ogden finished 10th overall with an Olympic score of 2485.1. Freshman Jordan Williams (Colorado Springs, CO) finished in 10th place with an Olympic score of 2444.8. Second Lieutenant Anna Weilbacher, Class of 2019 and a member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program, finished 13th overall with 2478.9.
