Baseball Falls to Army in Armed Forces Invite Opener

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Air Force Academy baseball team couldn't get things going in a 9-1 setback to Army West Point, Friday afternoon, Feb. 28, at Segra Stadium.

The Falcon offense scratched together four hits on the day, including a double from senior Tommy Gillman, as well as an RBI single from sophomore Alexander Pup. On the mound, sophomore Connor Bright made his Falcon debut, and got the final two outs without allowing a run, while recording his first collegiate strikeout.

The first two innings went by scoreless before Army broke the ice in the third with a four spot. They added tallies in the fifth and seventh, before putting the game to bed in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs.

AF broke the shutout in the ninth after a leadoff walk turned into runners on the corners and two outs following an error. With two down, Pup singled in the lone run for the Falcons, ending the contest with the 9-1 score.

The Falcons return to the diamond tomorrow, Feb. 29, for day two of the Armed Forces Invitational. AF will play a split doubleheader, starting by facing Campbell at 11 a.m. MT, followed by the second game against Army, which has a slated first pitch of 3 p.m. MT.
