Women’s Tennis Sweeps CSU-Pueblo and Weber State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's tennis swept a doubleheader, hosting CSU-Pueblo and Weber State Friday at the indoor tennis courts. The Falcons defeated CSUP, 7-0, and Weber State, 5-2, to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Senior TJ Fumagalli set another school record with her win in singles vs. CSU-Pueblo. Her dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Tilly Blasdale gave her 109 career singles wins and 70 career dual singles wins, which are both new school records.

The Falcons took the doubles point with a 3-0 sweep. Meredith Jones and Kristin Kerrigan won at No. 1 over Kali Hamilton/Tilly Blasdale 6-1. The double point was secured at No. 2, as Nadeen Lieberman and Sydney Fitch defeated Emily Sproston/Katherine Ambrose 6-1. Mebeli Becerra and Shailla Alda defeated Sarah Megilligan/Roma Cordova 6-4 at No. 3

In singles, Fitch won at No. 2 over Hamilton 6-3, 7-5. Alex Kuo won at No. 3 over Sproston 6-0, 6-3. Fumagalli won the dual for the Falcon at No. 1, downing Blasdale 6-0, 6-1.

Air Force also earned matches at No. 4-6. Courtney Swift won at No. 4 over Megilligan 6-2, 6-1. Abby Warner won at No. 5 over Katherine Ambrose 6-1, 6-0. Becerra won at No. 6 over Cordova 6-0, 6-0.

In the nightcap vs. Weber State the Falcons broke up a 2-2 tie by winning itwo-straight matches to take the dual.

The Falcons opened by taking the doubles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Fumagalli and Lieberman dispatched Caitlin Herb/Morett 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. The Falcons took the point at No. 2 with Jones and and Kerrigan defeating Emily Sposton/Katherine Ambrose.

In singles, Meredith Jones fell at No. 2 to Megan Lombardi, 2-5, 7-6, 7-6. Fumagalli won at No. 1 over Yuuna Ukita 7-5, 6-0 to put the Falcons back up at 2-1.

After a loss at No. 3, the Falcons won at No. 4 as Kristin Kerrigan defeated Ana Morett Salas 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Alex Kuo's win at No. 6 clinched the dual with a 6-2, 7-5 win.

"Regarding Weber State, it was a really great win against a team that didn't quit. Weber State made us fight for everty point. We played well in doubles to take the point. In singles we won the first set in all six matches, but Weber State kept fighting. TJ came away with the first singles win fo us, setting a new school record for singles wins. Kristin made it a 3-1 game with a win at No. 4. in a three set battle. Sydney then clinched the match with a win at No. 5. This was a battle from beginning to end and just the type of match we needed at this time in the season."

Air Force returns to action tomorrow, hosting Seattle and Valparaiso.
