AF had six swimmers competing in the event
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Air Force Academy swimming team had six athletes compete at the 2020 College Swimming Coach Association of America National Invitational Championship, Thursday, March 12 on the campus of Cleveland State University. It was a highly successful day, as three new school records were set.
The six swimmers in action were sophomores Isaac Gwin, Matthew Lattin, Andrew Limpert, and Corey Shepard, as well as freshmen Tory Bartlett and Jaykob Williams. As a team, in the limited events, they totaled 125.5 points to take eighth place.
Starting off with the 200 free relay, the squad of Lattin, Limpert, Gwin, and Shepard, took first in the 20-team event with a new school and CSU pool record time of 1:19.00, which edged out the previous school record of 1:19.01 set in 2017.
Then two new individual records were set, as Isaac Gwin re-broke his school record 100 back time in a time trial, clocking in with a 46.22. Then in the 1000 free time trial, Williams smashed the previous school record, as he swam a 9:02.56, breaking the previous record of 9:07.14 set in 2016 by Andrew Faciszewski.
Elsewhere in the competition, Williams also swam the 500 free, and set a new top-10 time with a 4:23.33, the eighth-fastest in Academy history. He took 10th in that event. In the 50 free, AF had three place in the top-six, as Lattin placed third (20.02), Shepard fourth (20.18), and Limpert sixth (20.38). Finally, in the 50 breast, Bartlett placed 12th with a 25.71.
