Laufenberg named preseason Walter Camp Football Foundation All-American

Air Force senior offensive lineman Nolan Laufenberg has been named second-team preseason All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, according to an announcement today by the organization. He is the first Falcon to earn Walter Camp All-American honors since Carlton McDonald in 1992.
Laufenberg is the first Air Force offensive lineman to earn All-American honors since Brett Huyser earned fourth-team honors by The Sporting News in 2002. He's the first All-American at any position for the Falcons since safety Weston Steelhammer was named to multiple teams in 2016 and first on offense since all-purpose athlete Chad Hall in 2007.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation is an all-volunteer organization and caretaker of the nation's oldest college football All-America team. Thirteen players who earned Walter Camp All-American recognition in 2019 are on the 2020 preseason list. Leading the First Team offensive unit is junior running back Chuba Hubbard (Oklahoma State), who returns to the Cowboys after rushing for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019. Ja'Marr Chase (LSU) is a preseason All-America wide receiver after recording 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns for the national champion Tigers.
On defense, four players who earned Walter Camp Second Team All-America honors in 2019 are on the 2020 preseason list. Linebackers Micah Parson (Penn State) and Hamilcar Rashed (Oregon State) are joined by defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman (Pittsburgh) and defensive back Derek Stingley (LSU). Punter Max Duffy (Kentucky), a first team All-America selection a year ago, is on the 2020 preseason list along with placekicker Keith Duncan (Iowa), who earned Second Team honors in 2019.
In all, 33 different schools from eight conferences are represented on the Preseason All-America First and Second Teams (a total of 50 players selected). Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football," first named an All-American team in 1889. The 2020 season will be the 131st edition of the team. In late November, the 2020 All-America teams will be selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision schools and will be certified by Marcum's New Haven-based accounting firm.

Air Force capped a historic season with a 31-21 win over Washington State in the Cheez-It Bowl Dec. 27 in Phoenix, Ariz. The win gave Air Force an 11-2 overall record. Air Force's 11 wins are the third most in program history, trailing the 12 wins in 1985 and 1998. The Falcons closed the season with an eight-game winning streak, the program's longest in one season since 1998. The eight-game winning streak ties as the third longest overall in program history and is the second longest active streak in the nation. Air Force closed the season ranked in the final national polls for the first time since 1998, as the Falcons finished 22nd in the Associated Press poll with 209 points and 23rd in the USA Today Coaches poll with 265 points.
