Scottie Headlines 2019-20 Air Force Men’s Basketball Awards

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. — Air Force men's basketball released its 2019-20 team awards, with senior Lavelle Scottie leading the way with three team honors. The team award winners were announced upon the completion of the academic school year at the Academy.
Scottie earned the Bob Beckel Team Most Valuable Player Award for the second straight season. In addition, the Forth Worth, Texas native earned the Ray Dudley Leading Scorer Award and the Reggie Jones Leading Rebounder Award. Scottie led the Falcons in scoring for the third consecutive season, averaging 15.7 points per game. The forward also led the team with 181 rebounds, for a 5.7 average. A two-time All-Mountain West honoree, Scottie is one of Air Force's all-time scoring greats, recently graduating with 1,546 career points, which ranks fourth all-time at Air Force.
For the second straight season, Brown earned the Bob Spear Award for athletics, academics and military performance which is the highest honor a player can earn. Brown appeared in 27 games as a reserve point guard as a senior, dishing out 17 assists. The senior recently graduated with a Systems Engineering - Human Factors degree and begins his career in the Air Force as a space operations officer.
Also for the second-straight season, senior Sid Tomes earned the Cliff Parsons Memorial Falcon Award, presented to the Falcon that demonstrated the most leadership and hustle during the season. Tomes capped his career averaging 6.9 ppg and was second on the team with 80 assists. The combo guard proved most valuable on the defensive end, often tasked with guarding the opposition's top perimeter scorers.
Tomes, along with sophomore forward Abe Kinrade earned the Jack Braley Iron Bolt Award, for hardest worker in the weight room. Kinrade made significant strides on the court in his second season, appearing in 27 games. His shooting splits were one of the best on the team, as he shot 54.1 percent from the field and 90.4 percent from the free throw line.
Sophomore AJ Walker took home the Jeff Bowling Award for the second-straight season, given to the player with the most assists. Walker had a standout sophomore campaign, where he averaged 11.2 ppg and a team-leading 3.1 assists per game. The San Antonio, Texas, native was one of the top point guards in the Mountain West, ranking 12th in assists and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.51).
Junior forward Ameka Akaya earned the Tim Harris Most Improved Award. After taking the fall semester off to focus on academics, Akaya returned to the team in time for conference play and was one of the top scoring threats amongst the reserves, averaging 3.8 ppg. His shooting splits were also amongst the best on the team, shooting 53.2 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three and 91.7 percent from the line.
The Rob Marr Sportsmanship Award went to sophomore forward Isaac Monson. Monson also made significant strides from his freshman season, appearing in 12 games, averaging 1.5 ppg and 1.2 rpg.
