In his own words:
I had the pleasure of taking two summer classes, aeronautical engineering and electrical & computer engineering over the summer.
I'm looking forward to finally live out my dreams, make masterpieces in the kitchen and maybe get a dog after graduation.
During the pandemic, I learned that I'm probably the best cook on the team, but also how this virus does not discriminate. We are all just human and must take care of each other.
2019 – Played in 11 games, starting one … had seven total tackles, including four unassisted … also had a pass breakup … first start of the season came vs. Fresno State … recorded a season-high three tackles, including two unassisted, vs. the Bulldogs … also had one tackle each vs. Colgate, San Jose State, Navy and Colorado State.
2018 – Missed the entire 2018 season due to injury suffered during the preseason.
2017 – Played in 12 games, starting nine … started the last nine games of the season … recorded 52 total tackles, an interception and a pass breakup … five tackles vs. Boise State … six tackles vs. Wyoming … career-best eight tackles vs. Army … three tackles and his first-career interception at Colorado State … had five tackles at Nevada and six at Navy and vs. UNLV … first-career start came vs. New Mexico.
2016 – Did not see any varsity action.
High School – Lettered four years in football and track and one in wrestling … was a Scout.com three-star rated recruit … honorable mention all-conference as a junior and senior in football … was a state champion in the long jump in indoor and outdoor track … first-team all-state in track … jumped 23-plus feet … high school football coach was Tom Thennell.
Personal – Son and James III and Shondrela Jones … has two younger siblings … nicknames are Jonesy and JJ … father, James III, is the defensive coordinator at Northern Colorado … major is management … hobbies are sleeping and listening to music … has attended 12 different schools in his lifetime … was born and spent much of his childhood in Houston, Texas … completed Operations Air Force and was on the cadet working group for survival training in the summer of 2018 … was on the cadet leadership cadre for survival training and completed a summer academics course in astronautics in the summer of 2019.
