Air Force With Setback To San Diego State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (4-9, 2-7 MW) dropped a 98-61 Mountain West contest to San Diego State (10-4, 4-3 MW) Friday night at Clune Arena. Junior guard AJ Walker scored 17 points to lead the Falcons.
Air Force led 6-5 at the 14:16 mark before San Diego State went on a 22-0 run to take control of the game. The Aztecs kept up the defensive pressure, while shooting a blistering 70 percent from the field to go up 52-16 at halftime.
Air Force played much better in the second half with 45 points, its highest scoring half of the season. The Falcons shot 70 percent from the field in the latter half, connecting on 16 of 23 attempts.
Walker reached double figures in scoring for the sixth straight game, shooting 6 of 10 from the field. Walker added three rebounds and two assists.
Senior forward Ameka Akaya added 12 points off the bench on 5 of 8 shooting. Akaya was the leading scorer off the bench for the seventh straight game.
Sophomores Nikc Jackson scored nine and Mason Taylor eight. Taylor had a season-high for points, logging 21 minutes. Freshman Glen McClintock scored six points and sophomore CJ Haut had a career-high four points.
Air Force shot a season-high 55 percent from the field on the night, its fourth-straight game over 50 percent shooting.
San Diego State shot 54.5 percent for the night, connecting on 13 three's. Guard Jordan Schakel led five Aztecs in double-figures with 18 points. Adam Seiko and Aguek Arop scored 14 points each.
Game two of the series is Sunday, Jan. 24. The game tips at 8 pm MT and will be televised by FS1.
